🛵 A PIECE OF AMERICAN HISTORY — THE DOODLE BUG LEGACY

This 1946 Hiawatha Doodle Bug Jumbo represents a fascinating chapter in American micro-mobility history. Built by Beam Manufacturing Company of Webster City, Iowa, for sale through the Gambles store chain, these iconic scooters were the original “mini-bikes” that captured the imagination of post-war America. The tubular-steel frame is finished in a rich red with white accents and steel bodywork that has stood the test of time.

🎨 CLASSIC STYLING & DETAILS

The red-finished steel bodywork features white accents that give this Doodle Bug its distinctive period charm. White upholstery adorns the seat, complemented by a passenger grab handle for the sidecar passenger. Dual headlights provide a vintage look while the rear-mounted cylindrical fuel tank and spare wheel complete the nostalgic aesthetic. A chrome handlebar with twist-grip throttle and disc brake lever on the right, plus a clutch brake lever on the left, puts you in full control.

⚙️ MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Power comes from a 127cc Briggs & Stratton four-stroke single, featuring a kick starter and a single carburetor with an oil-bath air cleaner element. The engine sends power through a primary belt to a centrifugal clutch and then via a drive chain to the rear wheel. The 4″ steel wheels are finished in red and mounted with Cheng Shin tires. Braking is handled by a single disc at the rear in addition to a clutch brake reportedly installed under current ownership. The bike does not feature suspension, staying true to its vintage design.

🚦 STREET LIGHTING & SAFETY

The Doodle Bug is equipped with a horn, turn signals, and brake lights, making it remarkably well-appointed for its era. No instrumentation is present, so total mileage is unknown; approximately 10 miles have been ridden by the seller. The frame and engine were issued individual assigned identification numbers from the state of California in 2015, though the scooter was not titled at that time.

✨ AUTHENTIC COLLECTOR’S PIECE

This is not just a vehicle—it’s a tangible piece of American motorized history. The Doodle Bug represents the golden era of American innovation when anything seemed possible. With its sidecar, spare tire, and charming aesthetics, this 1946 Hiawatha is perfect for the collector who appreciates authenticity and character. Offered at no reserve, this is an opportunity to own a genuine slice of Americana.
